“The Oyster Duo” is a dynamic exciting pair. The world-class pianist Anna Fedorova and double bassist Nicholas Schwartz.
Having met on the sands of the Brazilian coast, we bonded over the love of the oyster! Many people ask, “Why the name ‘Oyster Duo’?”. The oyster is a sophisticated, refined delicacy that tastes of the boundless sea, which, not unlike the music, can even have an aphrodisiac effect! When we first talked about performing together we considered the oyster’s delicate and refined qualities in combination with the wild taste of the sea as being similar to the combination of sophisticated music making played with freedom and abandon. We also happened to be eating oysters at that moment! We love fresh oysters from the street markets in Amsterdam we hope you enjoy our music as much as we enjoyed the oysters.
Anna Fedorova is one of the world’s premier young pianists. From an early age, she demonstrated an innate musical maturity and outstanding technical abilities. Her international concert career took off while she was only a child, and audiences around the world were stunned by the depth and power of her musical expression. Critics have praised Anna’s signature “sweet modesty and wild expression, “which rendered listeners” completely taken by surprise, compelled and astonished.”
Nicholas Santangelo Schwartz, double bassist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, is a distinguished artist on both the double bass and cello. He is perhaps the only one in theh world performing on both instruments at an artist level. Nicholas is a laureate of multiple international competitions, including being the youngest winner ever (at 19) of the International Society of Bassists Competition, as well as the commission prize. He was also the first bassist in 43 years (in a unanimous vote) to have won the Stulberg International String Competition and its Bach award.
